We first saw The Secret Garden on the BBC’s ‘Don’t Tell the Bride’ and I was in love with it since then and had to go and see it. We had seen a few other venues and none of them hit the spot on what we were after.
We made an appointment to see Pat and the venue in December 2014. There were no leaves on the trees or flowers blooming, but this didn’t stop us seeing how beautiful the place was. The best thing was that we could have the ceremony and reception all in one place without having to move between venues which would have made it hard for a few of our guests. That was it, we were smitten and straight away made a booking.
Planning the wedding wasn’t easy as I wanted to do everything myself, with the help of my mum of course. We sourced all the flowers from the Doncaster flower market and hit every car boot going to find things. To keep the children entertained, we hunted for garden games, sack races, ring toss and giant Jenga.
In the blink of an eye it was the day before our wedding! My mum and I were setting up the venue, it was a long, hard day and it didn’t stop raining. Worries were settling in to what the weather would hold tomorrow. We were brought many cups of tea and coffee from Pat and John to keep us going. The end result was amazing. Everything I could have wished for and more.
We wanted a rustic, relaxed feel to the day, I chose to have pages from the book ‘The Secret Garden’ scattered down the middle of the table with eucalyptus branches and copper lanterns. The head table was a sweetheart table just for us two, it was something different and not seen very often.
On the day of our wedding, the sun definitely had its hat on. We had given Pat a timeline of when things were to happen and this was kept to by the second – it went without a fault. The day ran so smoothly, if you were to ask me what was my favourite part of the day was, I couldn’t even tell you as I loved every part, from walking down the aisle to the silent disco at the end.
The Silent Disco still comes up in conversation whenever we talk to any of our guests. One minute you’re with everyone else, then you place the headphones on and you’re dancing, everyone changing each other’s headset channels so we were all on the same song. The kids loved this too, having their own little dance off’s.
Our guests are still talking about our wedding, how beautiful the place was and how great the day was. I love going to their homes as they have pictures taken at our wedding on the walls. We couldn’t have wished for a better venue and host to hold our perfect day.
Thanks again for giving us the best day of our lives.
