Your Event


Since the very first days of hosting events at The Secret Garden we made a deliberate decision not to offer set packages and this is one key factor that makes us quite different to other venues. This has always been an important part of our ethos, to ensure that those who choose us for their special day have the flexibility to create something personal and unique.

Events at our venue are always pre-booked and although weddings are our most regular booking, we also love to host christenings, birthday celebrations, anniversary parties and afternoon tea based events.  We specialise in providing a professional, yet down to earth service and whether you choose a formal or relaxed style for your day, we will be on hand to assist and advise you from the time you book through to the big day itself.

We are licensed to hold civil ceremonies and can therefore accommodate full weddings as well as reception only events following a marriage service held elsewhere.  To marry at The Secret Garden you will need to arrange a booking with the registrar you will find the details for the nominated office at the bottom of this page.

We can accommodate large events of up to 120 people during the day, with a maximum of 40 additional guests attending in the evening.  A large event requires a full marquee and would need to take place on a weekend date. For an intimate gathering of up to 40 people, a large marquee is not necessary and can be held in the smaller ceremony marquee located by the Orangery, between the French Courtyard and Georgian Tea Garden.  A maximum of 20 additional guests can join the evening celebrations if desired and can take place on a midweek date as well as at the weekend.

We use George Mudford and Sons for our marquee requirements; a highly respected local company who has been providing us with beautiful marquees and an excellent service for several years.  You will find their details at the bottom of this page.

There are many choices you can make to create a day that is personal and special to you.  You can choose the ‘run of the day’ – the registrar offers different time slots, so you can have a full day with us, attend during the day and move on for your evening celebration or join us from the afternoon onwards.

You may choose many of the suppliers you wish to use including your caterer, florist, photographer and videographer and entertainment.  We are happy to have any unamplified music played at The Secret Garden which includes a jazz band, classical string trio or quartet and acoustic singers and musicians.  We have an in-house DJ who provides a silent disco with three-channel headphones for later in the evening when noise levels at the venue need to be restricted.  This is an aspect that works very well here, it is a popular and fun part of the day and always provides many great memories.

The gardens are always presented beautifully and each month offers something special as the plants develop and the flowers bloom throughout the season. You may also like to decorate the venue to personalise it for your day and create the style or theme you have in mind.
